A lot of my local followers, friends and family know that I used to work at the Clarion County VA Clinic when it was in Foxburg at the AC Valley Medical Center. I did my best to help each and every veteran out with their needs and eligibility for their benefits. As it were, the entire time I worked there (I was NOT a government employee, I was contracted from Health Services of Clarion), I honestly couldn't stand the way our veterans were treated and denied items and services they needed.
With that being said, I am grateful for every single one of you, giving your up everything in your lives, marriages, kids, homes, ect... to make sure my family and friends have all we could ever want in this country and the freedom for anything as it is now. My grandpa was a World War II Veteran with 7 Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star. Now there are only 2 of his original Purple Hearts surviving, I have one, my brother has the other. My brother was given his flag from the military from his funeral by my uncle who was the oldest male child.
My grandpa was and still is my hero. I looked up to him so much growing up and he taught me so much, that I am trying to instill in my kids now. He was one of the smartest people I have ever known, and he only had an 8th grade education. I'm currently working on a tribute frame for him that I picked up thrift store shopping several weeks ago. I honestly can't wait to make it to the photo-restoring place to have a few of the old war and military photos retouched and resized!

I only had one grandparent, as my grandmother (his wife), had passed away when my dad was only 16. My mom's mother passed away when she was only 15. Her dad, we never really associated with him. All I had growing up was my Pap! He was so amazing he made up for not for the missing grandparents. I was 14 when he passed away, so he only got to tell me the PG version of his war stories. I remember, approaching his 74th birthday (he passed just before), he still had shrapnel in his arms, fingers, and a piece in his side... Oh, how I'd love to hear them all again, but documentary style, now that I am an adult. I have a few pictures of him hanging around the house and my children ask about him a lot.
My grandpa's headstone has his World War II title on it as well as that he was a Purple Heart Recipient. I try to go every year and clean up his grave, he is buried with my grandma, at her feet (he was cremated) as he didn't have his own plot. I have taken my kids, and we go have a nice day in the city, he's buried in Pittsburgh, PA and we live a about an hour and a half north of there.

There are many more veterans in my family. My Uncle Jimmy, was in the Air Force in Vietnam, he was a Helicopter Mechanic, my Uncle Jim (yes there is a difference lol, many James' in the family) was in the Korean War in the Army, and my cousin Al was in World War II in the Navy. There are many more but these were the people who were directly involved in my life. So. please no hard feelings anyone I did not mention, I thank you for your service as well. :)
To everyone, who has served our country, related, friend, or whom I don't even know, THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR SACRIFICES FOR MY FAMILY AND I! I did not get to compile my normal list of Veterans Day things.
The Spruce, however, has an amazing list of Restaurants having veteran promotions and another list of Activities to do today that are free!
